What is Somatic Ecotherapy?

Somatic ecotherapy weaves together the intelligence of the body and the wisdom of the natural world. It is a therapeutic and embodied practice that integrates somatic awareness (body-based psychotherapy) with ecotherapy (nature-based healing), recognising that our psychological, emotional, and physical wellbeing are deeply interconnected with the environments we live within.

This approach understands that healing does not happen in isolation – our bodies, nervous systems, and stories are part of the wider ecosystems that sustain us. When we reconnect with nature, we reconnect with ourselves.

The essence of Somatic Ecotherapy.

In Somatic Ecotherapy, both the body and the natural world become teachers. The process invites prsence, movement and sensory engagement with natural elements like sunlight, wind, water and earth. Through these experiences, the body remembers its innate capacity for regulation, pleasure and vitality.

Nature is not the backdrop for this work – it is an active participant, and co-therapist. Just as the body carries memory and emotion, the land too hold story and medicine. This relationship helps us restore a sense of belonging and safety, often lost in modern, fast-paced lives.

Principles of Somatic Ecotherapy

When we release stored experiences through somatic movement we change on every level:

How Somatic Ecotherapy heals.

Many women describe this work as a return to themselves, to safety and to the pulse of life that exists beneath the noise or emotional discomfort of their lives. Somatic Ecotherapy has many benefits:

Who is Somatic Ecotherapy for?

Somatic Ecotherapy is for women seeking deeper connection – with their bodies, emotions, relationships, and the living world. It supports those experiencing stress, anxiety, disconnection, or a longing to feel more grounded and alive.

Whether experienced through individual therapy, group retreats, or embodiment practices, Somatic Ecotherapy offers a pathway to restore balance, belonging, and the felt sense of being at home in one’s own body — and on the earth.

What does a group session look like?

We schedule community sessions for three hours, however it could be 2.5 hours on the day depending on numbers. You don’t need any prior experience. This is a low impact activity, and is meditative in nature. It is not a ‘bush walk’ or community hike, and there won’t be long distance walking. It’s a time to reflect, connect and learn form nature and your deepest Self.

It is however recommended that you wear appropriate footwear, and are comfortable in a bush setting. All information will be emailed to you on booking.

Your ecotherapy activities could include:

Our Whole Women Movement™ community workshops in 2025 are free to attend. We would appreciate your honest feedback at the end (can be anonymous), with participation in some light photography so other women can learn about this experience. Please let Kelly know in advance if you wish to be excluded from these elements of the events, but still wish to attend.

Somatic Ecotherapy and The Embodiment Method™

Somatic Ecotherapy is one of the foundations of Kelly Anne Mitchell’s integrative practice. It is woven throughout The Embodiment Method™ and the Whole Women Framework , which together create the programs of her community, The Whole Women Movement™.

Within The Embodiment Method™, nature-based connection supports somatic transformation – helping women re-wire attachment patterns, regulate their nervous systems, and embody confidence and vitality.

Within the Whole Women Framework, this relationship with the natural world becomes part of a collective remembering – a movement of women returning to wholeness, depth, and relational harmony with life itself.

Women share their experience.
